There is now a bridge across the Demarara river, my love And it's alright to seek shelter always oblige the young boys who try Walk now gently on the earth just like in my memory, a forest in birth a flimsy latch holding the door against the wind and not your neighbour It's nothing to ask for a few peppers and veggies from the vine running around catching iguanas crabs in a basket and coconut oil and so
2.
Water Tower 03:29
Don't let them in let the sun set on your worst work let it go They'll never tell where your son went why he ended up at dawn in the shining light of the water tower of the water tower
3.
Part Of Me 02:16
Part of me Part of you When you grow old I grow old too Time moves forward We fly onward The tide always comes back The moon doesn't know that Part of me Part of you When you grow old I grow old too

O Guyana 03:49
And I remember O Guyana I wrote your name on the banks of the seawall at low tide your picture is on my wall I swear I have not forgotten I live with a hole the shape of you My lotus blossom, my forest mango tree O Guyana The distant sight of you my favorite golden hue the night wind combs your hair a long life we have not shared

about

These are songs from this past summer. I wanted to call this "Stories From The Equator" but it is my great sadness that not all my stories are from the equator.

I found common ground in calling this project Borderlands when I incorporated the first 3 songs which were inspired by our trip to Guyana (where we traveled with Alyssa Bistonath to record location sound for her upcoming doc about the country and its relationship with its diaspora) with 3 more songs: a song about being inside when you want to be outside; another about inexplicable visions before death; and another about disconnected relatives who can only find a reason to love one another in the deepness and plainness of sharing genetic material.

So these are the borders, all there all at once, fully defined, floating to the top in importance and sinking again; life/death, inside/outside, childhood/adulthood, north america/south america, land/sea
